Tom Cotton: Biden’s Pick For Homeland Security Is ‘Disqualified’ For ‘Selling Citizenship’ To Chinese Nationals

Published

on

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) ripped into Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s pick to head the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for “selling citizenship” to Chinese nationals.

Cotton denounced Alejandro Mayorkas, who Biden announced he would pick as his DHS chief on Tuesday, during an interview on Fox News on Wednesday. Cotton said that Mayorkas’ alleged abuse of the EB-5 visa program, which allows foreigners who invest significant sums into growing U.S. businesses to apply for green cards, “disqualified” Mayorkas from the position.

“He was found by Barack Obama’s inspector general to be guilty of selling green cards to Chinese nationals on behalf of rich Democratic donors,” Cotton said. “Think about that. Selling citizenship to well-connected Chinese nationals on behalf of Democratic Party donors. That is disqualifying…”

In tweeting out the clip, Cotton added: “Alejandro Mayorkas was found by Barack Obama’s Inspector General to be guilty of selling Green Cards to Chinese nationals on behalf of rich, democratic donors. He is disqualified from leading the Department of Homeland Security.”

Former President Barack Obama tapped Mayorkas in 2013 to serve as DHS deputy secretary after he had overseen Citizenship and Immigration Services from 2009 to 2013. In 2015, Mayorkas testified before the House Homeland Security Committee over an inspector general report that he had pushed some Chinese nationals with ties to top Democratic lawmakers through the EB-5 visa program. Complaints from U.S. Customs and Immigration Services staff first led to the probe into Mayorkas’ handling of the visa program, according to Fox News.

Mayorkas put out a statement after the inspector general report came out saying he disagreed with the findings, and had improved the program through “hands-on” administration.

“While I disagree with the Inspector General’s report, I will certainly learn from it and from this process. I appreciate and embrace Secretary Johnson’s decision to create a new protocol to ensure the EB-5 program is free from the reality or perception of improper outside influence,” Mayorkas said.

“As the leader of U.S. Citizenship and Immigrations Services, I had the responsibility to ensure that cases, including the three that are the focus of the report, were decided as the law required and that agency errors were corrected. I fulfilled that responsibility and I also took steps to ensure that my involvement was understood by those around me,” he continued.

“The EB-5 program was badly broken when I arrived at USCIS. There was erroneous decision-making and insufficient security vetting of cases. I could not and did not turn my back on my responsibility to address those grave problems. I made improving the program a priority and I did so in a hands-on manner, through cases, policies, and sweeping personnel and organizational changes,” Mayorkas added.

The Biden campaign defended the pick, telling Fox News that the inspector general report did not uncover any legal wrongdoing by Mayorkas.

Amazon Fights Against Mail-In Voting In Union Decision To Preserve Vote Fidelity

Published

E-commerce giant Amazon is reportedly seeking to postpone a unionization vote at a warehouse in Alabama and is fighting back against federal labor authorities’ decision to allow mail-in voting. Amazon claims it has created a “safe, confidential and convenient proposal for associates to vote on-site, which is in the best interest of all parties—associate convenience, vote fidelity and timeliness of vote count.”

The Wall Street Journal reports that the e-commerce giant Amazon is aiming to postpone a unionization vote at one of its warehouses in Alabama. The company is also reportedly requesting that federal labor authorities reconsider a decision to allow mail-in voting due to the pandemic.

On Thursday, Amazon filed an appeal to a decision by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), which is allowing employees to vote by mail due to coronavirus risks instead of holding in-person elections. The ballots are set to be mail to around 6,000 workers associated with Amazon’s facility in Bessemer, Alabama, on February 8.

In the petition, Amazon said the NLRB’s decision was flawed as it had not adequately defined an outbreak, along with a number of other objections. Workers at Amazon’s facility are seeking representation from the Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union.

If a majority of ballots vote in favor of unionization, it would be the first time that hourly Amazon workers have formed or joined a union in the United States.

Amazon declined to comment on the appeal but stated that it believes the best approach to an election would be having it conducted in person, stating that it “provided the NLRB with a safe, confidential and convenient proposal for associates to vote on-site, which is in the best interest of all parties—associate convenience, vote fidelity and timeliness of vote count.”

Did Joe Biden Just Make Our Power Grid Vulnerable To Foreign Adversaries Again?

Published

on

On May 1, 2020, President Trump signed Executive Order 13920, “Securing the United States Bulk-Power System,” to prevent foreign adversaries from creating and exploiting vulnerabilities in the United States bulk-power system.

“The bulk-power system is a target of those seeking to commit malicious acts against the United States and its people, including malicious cyber activities,” the executive order read. “Although maintaining an open investment climate in bulk-power system electric equipment, and in the United States economy more generally, is important for the overall growth and prosperity of the United States, such openness must be balanced with the need to protect our Nation against a critical national security threat.”

In December, former U.S. Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette issued a prohibition order “designed to reduce the risks that entities associated with the People’s Republic of China pose to the Nation’s bulk-power system” under Executive Order 13920, which took effect January 16, 2021—mere days before Biden’s inauguration.

On his first day in office, Joe Biden suspended Executive Order 13920 for 90 days as part of his “Executive Order on Protecting Public Health and the Environment and Restoring Science to Tackle the Climate Crisis.” According to the order, “The Secretary of Energy and the Director of OMB shall jointly consider whether to recommend that a replacement order be issued.”

While it remains to be seen whether a replacement order will be issued, and whether a replacement would similarly protect Americas’s bulk-power system from being exploited by foreign adversaries, it’s still hard to understand why Trump’s executive order was suspended in the first place.

Was it simply an anti-Trump action or was it because of his son Hunter Biden?

As CNN reported last month, “After [Joe Biden] left office in 2017, Hunter Biden worked on securing a deal with CEFC China Energy to invest in US energy projects.” The deal fell through, but Hunter Biden’s business dealings with China may very well be a motive behind his father’s suspending Trump’s executive order. Recall that Joe Biden is on the record saying that “China is not our problem.” And he has repeatedly insisted that his son’s business dealings with Ukraine, while he was vice president and the Obama administration’s point man on Ukraine, was not a conflict of interest.

While President Trump believed in “America First,” Joe Biden seems to believe in “China First.”

Bernie Sanders Predicts Democrat Party Could Be Wiped Out In 2022 Midterm Elections

Published

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent lawmaker who caucuses with Democrats, warned the Democratic Party this week what will happen if Democrats do not improve American lives now that they control the White House, House, and have effective control over the Senate.

Sanders predicted the Democratic Party will be “wiped out” in the 2022 midterm elections if they squander their opportunity to improve American lives.

“Given all that we face, now is not the time to think small. It is time to think big, very big,” Sanders said on Thursday, according to McClatchy reporter Francesca Chambers.

“With Joe Biden as president and Democrats controlling the House and Senate for the first time since 2010, we will be judged on what we deliver for the American people in their time of need. The people want action, not excuses,” Sanders explained.

“And let me be very clear. I have zero doubt that unless we significantly improve the lives of the American people this year, Democrats will get wiped out in the 2022 midterm elections,” Sanders predicted. “That is what happened when Democrats had the House, the Senate and the presidency under Bill Clinton in 1994 and that is what happened under Barack Obama in 2010.”

“Politicians and media focus a great deal on drama, personality and conflict,” Sanders added. “That’s how they define politics. That is not my view. Politics is nothing more complicated than delivering policy that positively impacts the lives of working families.

Of course, Sanders’ vision of what policies are beneficial significantly diverge from the majority of Americans. Sanders is a self-declared “democratic-socialist,” who advocates for European-style socialism.

Indeed, Sanders said this week that he would use his power in the Senate to implement as much of his big government agenda as possible while Democrats control Congress.

Sanders wrote in an essay for CNN:

The Senate’s 60-vote threshold to pass major legislation has become an excuse for inaction. But let’s be clear: We have the tools to overcome these procedural hurdles. As incoming Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, I will use a process known as budget reconciliation that will allow us to pass comprehensive legislation with only 51 votes

Democrats have a poor history of leveraging control in Washington.

In fact, the last two times that Democrats had control of the White House and Congress — after Bill Clinton’s election in 1992 and Barack Obama’s election in 2008 — Democrats gave up control in the next national election

The 1994 midterm elections were particularly bad for Democrats; they lost control of the Senate, House, a net loss of 10 governorships, and numerous state legislatures. The 2010 midterm elections were equally as bad — coming amid the Tea Party movement — though Democrats managed to retain control of the Senate until the 2014 midterm elections.
